LeBron James Delivers Clutch Performance to Lead 76ers Past Knicks

LeBron James delivered a vintage clutch performance on Friday night, sealing a 98-93 victory for the Philadelphia 76ers over the New York Knicks.

With the game tied at 93 and 1:32 left, James hit a tough turnaround jumper over OG Anunoby to put Philadelphia ahead for good. Then, with 11.9 seconds on the clock and the Sixers leading by three, he soared for an uncontested offensive rebound and putback layup after a Tyrese Maxey miss. That play extended the lead to five and effectively ended the contest. James is still getting comfortable with his new team's system. "I think every game and every week that I’m here, my body will continue to ramp up and ramp up and get better and better," James said after the game.

LeBron James' departure from the Los Angeles Lakers this past offseason left a void filled by Luka Doncic. But James' former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate, Channing Frye, has serious doubts about Doncic's championship potential. On his show Channing's Mailbag, Frye argued that Doncic's extremely high usage rate is not a recipe for winning a title, comparing his style to that of James Harden. "I love Luka. I just don’t think the way he plays basketball is going to win a championship," Frye said. He pointed out that the last player to win with such a high usage was Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021, calling the model unsustainable against teams with multiple scoring threats.

James's arrival has immediately changed the ceiling for a Philadelphia team that now looks like a genuine contender in the Eastern Conference. His ability to take over games in critical moments, as he did against the Knicks, provides a weapon they have lacked. Teammate Karl-Anthony Towns summed it up simply: "Obviously, when you add arguably the greatest player of all time, obviously you’re gonna get a lot better." The Sixers will rely on his leadership and late-game execution as they handle a tough conference.

• LeBron James scored the game's final five points for Philadelphia on October 30.
• Former teammate Channing Frye believes Luka Doncic's high-usage style cannot win an NBA championship.
• James is focusing on ramping up his physical condition and familiarity with the 76ers' offensive schemes.
• The win improved Philadelphia's early-season record as they integrate their new superstar.
