Usain Bolt's Sponsored Team Wins Rural Junior Cup All-Island Championship

Usain Bolt's foundation-sponsored Duanvale Primary School made history on November 2, 2026, becoming the first rural team to win the Youth Football League's Junior Cup All-Island Championship.

Duanvale Primary, representing Trelawny parish, stunned Balmagie Primary 4-0 in the final at Ferdi Neita Park, securing the title with remarkable resilience after losing their opening two group matches.

The victory marked a powerful return to Trelawny nearly a year after Hurricane Melissa devastated the region, with Bolt's foundation providing key support to affected schools.

Principal Janice Williams emphasized the balance between academic and athletic development, stating, "It is a lot of work, but we are committed to helping our footballers do well because it is important to balance sports with academics."

The same Usain Bolt who anchored Jamaica to a 38.99-second 4x100m relay victory at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Friday, easily qualified the team for the final ahead of Nigeria.

Bolt's relay team included Kimmari Roach, Julian Forte and Nickel Ashmeade, who had won 100 bronze in the sprint earlier in the week.

This dominant relay performance, combined with the school's community-focused sponsorship, created a powerful synergy that fueled Duanvale's championship run.

The championship victory demonstrates the lasting impact of Bolt's foundation in nurturing talent beyond the track, showing how athletic success can drive broader community development.

Duanvale's journey from losing their first two matches to claiming the title showed exceptional perseverance, with their 4-0 semi-final win over Independence City and 1-0 quarter-final victory over Spanish Town Primary highlighting their tactical growth.

The tournament's return to Trelawny after the hurricane showed a commitment to supporting children in recovering communities through sport, with 12 teams competing in the All-Island Finals following 18 first-round matches.
