Laurie Hernandez was born on June 9, 2000, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to parents Wanda and Anthony Hernandez, whose roots trace back to Puerto Rico. From an early age, she showed a passion for gymnastics, switching from ballet to gymnastics at the age of five. Her dedication to the sport led her to be homeschooled to accommodate her rigorous training schedule.

Hernandez made her mark in gymnastics by joining the U.S. national team in 2013. After a challenging period marked by injuries, she burst onto the senior scene in 2016, where she showcased her talent at various competitions, culminating in her selection for the Olympic team. Her performances at the 2016 Rio Olympics solidified her status as a top gymnast.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Hernandez was a crucial member of the U.S. women's gymnastics team, winning a gold medal in the team event and a silver medal on the balance beam. Her contributions to the 'Final Five' team, alongside stars like Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas, were pivotal in securing the team's success and popularity.

Hernandez's influence extends beyond gymnastics; she has become a role model for young athletes and has engaged in various media projects, including winning 'Dancing with the Stars' in 2016.
