Connor Hellebuyck was born in Commerce Township, Michigan, to Chuck and Erin Hellebuyck. Growing up in a hockey-loving family, he played AA hockey with his brother Christopher, as they could not afford to participate in the more expensive AAA circuit. Hellebuyck attended Walled Lake Northern High School, where he began to develop his skills as a goaltender.

Rise to Prominence

After a successful junior hockey season with the Odessa Jackalopes in the NAHL, Hellebuyck was drafted 130th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He then played for the UMass Lowell River Hawks, where he won the inaugural Mike Richter Award as the top goaltender in college hockey before turning professional in 2014.
