Trevor Lawrence's Hot Start Fuels Jaguars Confidence Ahead of Bengals Challenge

Trevor Lawrence is giving the Jacksonville Jaguars exactly what they need. The franchise quarterback is off to a hot start in the 2026 season, a performance that has head coach Liam Coen expressing strong confidence as the team returns from its bye week. This momentum is critical as Lawrence prepares for a personal hurdle: securing his first career victory against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4.

Lawrence's Strong Play Drives Team Confidence

Through the first six games, Lawrence’s performance has been a cornerstone for the Jaguars. His command of the offense and consistent play have provided a stable foundation for a team looking to make a serious playoff push. Coach Liam Coen, speaking on October 26, 2026, pointed directly to his quarterback as a source of optimism. "Trevor gives you confidence," Coen told reporters. The Jaguars hold a 2-1 record heading into their next contest, fresh off a dominant win over the New England Patriots.

Lawrence Rallies Around Struggling Teammate Brian Thomas Jr.

Lawrence’s leadership extends beyond his on-field play. Following a 34-31 loss to the Houston Texans where wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. was benched for the entire second half, Lawrence immediately stepped up to support his teammate. Trade rumors swirled after Coach Coen expressed disappointment, but the quarterback offered a public vote of confidence. "He’s too good of a player for it not to," Lawrence said, referring to the ball finding Thomas Jr. again. Star two-way player Travis Hunter also defended Thomas Jr., emphasizing the team's unified front despite the external noise and a two-game stretch where the receiver failed to record a catch.

A Personal Hurdle Awaits Against the Cincinnati Bengals

The next test on the schedule presents a unique challenge for Lawrence. He has never beaten the Cincinnati Bengals in three previous attempts, making them the only AFC team he has yet to conquer. "We've got to make it turn," Lawrence stated ahead of the Week 4 matchup. He acknowledged the history, noting a tough loss early in the 2025 season is one the team wants back. Overcoming this specific obstacle would mark another step in Lawrence's progression and solidify the Jaguars' strong early-season standing.

Lawrence Reveals His All-Time Quarterback Pantheon

Away from the immediate game plan, Lawrence recently shared his perspective on NFL greatness. He named his top five quarterbacks of all time, a list that reflects the players who have shaped the modern game. His selections are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Matthew Stafford. The group represents a mix of unparalleled championship success, individual MVP awards, and legendary passing prowess that Lawrence clearly studies and respects.
