Trevor Lawrence Named Jaguars Captain Ahead of 2026 Season

Trevor Lawrence has been named a team captain for the Jacksonville Jaguars entering the 2026 NFL season.

The Jaguars announced eight captains for the upcoming campaign with Lawrence included among the leadership group. This recognition comes as Jacksonville prepares to open their season at home against the Cleveland Browns.

Lawrence enters 2026 coming off a 13-win season and an AFC South division title in 2025. Despite that success many analysts remain skeptical about the Jaguars’ prospects for 2026.

Head coach Liam Coen has emphasized a mantra of "Anyone Anytime Anywhere Sustain Success" for the team. Lawrence embodies this approach having shown resilience after a challenging 2024 season where injuries limited his play.

In 2023 Lawrence signed a five-year $275 million contract extension making him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history at that time. That deal followed a strong 2022 season where he threw for 4113 yards 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The 2023 season saw Lawrence finish with 4016 yards 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions before Jacksonville collapsed down the stretch missing the playoffs.

His 2024 campaign ended early due to a concussion in Week 13 which caused him to miss the second half of the season as Jacksonville finished 4-13.

Now healthy and entering his fifth NFL season Lawrence aims to return to the form that earned him Pro Bowl consideration in 2022. The Jaguars will look to him to lead the offense as they seek to defend their AFC South title.
