Thibaut Courtois Launches Sports Investment Platform

2026-09-17 · Thibaut Courtois · Player Focus

Thibaut Courtois is building a business empire off the pitch while planning for a long future on it. The Real Madrid goalkeeper has launched a new sports investment platform, NXTPLAY, and stated he still aims to play at the highest level for another five or six seasons.

Courtois co-founded NXTPLAY with Gonzalo Vila, aiming to translate his on-field ambition into business success. The platform, launched on September 16, 2026, is an investment vehicle focused on sports and media. It already holds stakes in three football clubs, including his former youth side KRC Genk, a lighting partnership, and a gaming platform called PlayVault.

Courtois wants to attract other elite athletes to the venture, offering them ownership opportunities. He described his vision as building a "dream team" of investors, inspired by leadership skills learned from coaches like Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho. The plan includes global expansion, with a specific eye on the US market and esports, positioning Courtois for a future role in football development after his playing days.

Despite his growing business interests, Courtois remains fully committed to his goalkeeping career. He has publicly stated his intention to continue playing at the top level for another five or six years. This long-term outlook comes as he maintains his status as Real Madrid's first-choice goalkeeper, a role where his performances continue to draw praise from those who know the pressure of the Bernabéu.

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has recently come out in strong support of Courtois amid any external criticism. Casilla, who played for Madrid between 2015 and 2019, stressed that Courtois's performances should silence any doubters. "No one can criticise how he's performing," Casilla stated.

He highlighted that Courtois's value extends beyond saves. "He's someone who's earning us a lot of points and bringing a real sense of calm," Casilla explained, pointing to the security the Belgian provides for the defense. Casilla also noted the strength of the goalkeeping department, mentioning backup Andriy Lunin as a reliable option, something vital for a club competing on multiple fronts.

Courtois will not be part of Belgium's upcoming Nations League campaign. The decision for the goalkeeper to step away from the international squad was confirmed recently, allowing him to focus on his club commitments with Real Madrid during the tournament window.
