Roman Reigns Defends Title in Mexico City After Masterful

Roman Reigns remains the World Heavyweight Champion after a hard-fought victory over Penta in the main event of WWE RAW in Mexico City on September 14. The match, which drew massive online attention, was singled out by veteran William Regal as a masterclass in performance.

William Regal, a respected WWE talent development executive, took to social media to praise the champion's work. He specifically highlighted Reigns' facial expressions, reactions, and body movement during the 22-minute bout. Regal called the performance "masterful" and urged other wrestlers to study it closely to improve their ability to draw in an audience. One key moment he likely referenced was Reigns selling the effects of Penta's attack on his injured arm.

The September 14 episode marked RAW's first return to Mexico City in 15 years, and the local crowd was firmly behind the challenger. Penta, who earned the title shot by winning a Lucha libre tournament, pushed Reigns to the limit. He came close to an upset after hitting his signature Penta Driver and a springboard Mexican Destroyer. Reigns ultimately weathered the storm and secured the pinfall with his combination of a Superman Punch and a Spear. Videos from the match surpassed 74 million views across WWE's social platforms in less than 15 hours.

After the bell, Reigns' night wasn't over. As RAW went off the air, he was attacked by LA Knight with a BFT. WWE has since confirmed Reigns will defend his championship against Knight at the Money in the Bank event next month.

In a backstage interview, Penta expressed pride in his performance and acknowledged Reigns was the better man that night. But he was not finished. The luchador called for a rematch and made a strong promise to the champion and his fans. "One day I will become World Heavyweight Champion. I promise you," Penta said.

A recent discussion sparked by Conrad Thompson labeling Reigns an "industry plant" has drawn a response from MVP. The former WWE star disagreed with the characterization, arguing that Reigns' business impact for WWE speaks for itself. MVP pointed to merchandise and ticket sales as evidence of his drawing power. He recalled a lesson from Brock Lesnar about being a box-office attraction, suggesting that adding Reigns to a card can directly increase ticket demand.

However, MVP did acknowledge a distinction in mainstream fame. He conceded that Reigns may not yet have the same level of recognition outside wrestling as icons like John Cena, The Rock, or Stone Cold Steve Austin. For MVP, that's a separate question from Reigns' undeniable role as the top star within the industry today.

Beyond the in-ring action, Reigns was visibly engaged with the passionate crowd. At one point when he had the upper hand, he turned to the fans and shouted, "Let me hear you now huh? I don't hear sh*t now." The audience responded with a resounding cheer for Penta.
