During the final laps of the 1984 Firecracker 400 at Daytona International Speedway, Ken Ragan was running a lap down as Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough battled for the lead. Ragan said he noticed Petty using his car to gain an aerodynamic advantage. "Just as we go on the start-finish line, they go by me on the outside. I've looked in the mirror and I see smoke and there's hard racing. I know Richard came out and said, 'I picked off a little draft off of Ragan and helped me beat Cale to the line,'" Ragan recalled on the Dale Jr. Download podcast.

This drafting tactic allowed Petty to fill the pocket left behind by Ragan's car, giving him the boost needed to slide past Yarborough and claim the win. The victory marked Petty's 200th career triumph, a record that still stands in NASCAR history.
