Matteo Berrettini Fuels Fallout Rumors With Awkward Lorenzo Musetti Interview

Matteo Berrettini has sparked a firestorm of speculation about his relationship with fellow Italian star Lorenzo Musetti following a visibly awkward interview at the ATP Vienna Open. The 30 year old's reaction to a question about Musetti's recent success has fueled intense rumors of a personal fallout, with fans linking the tension to the timeline of Berrettini's breakup with his ex girlfriend, dancer Vanessa Bellini.

Berrettini was speaking after a straight sets first round victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on October 26, 2026. When asked if Musetti's title win at the Lyon Open the previous week had inspired his own performance, Berrettini froze. He reportedly paused, looked off camera, and asked the interviewer, "Is this live?" before offering a terse, non committal answer. That moment, captured and shared widely, convinced many observers that the two players are no longer on good terms. Social media users had already noted that Berrettini had stopped following Musetti on Instagram, adding digital evidence to the brewing drama.

The core of the speculation points to Berrettini's former partner, Vanessa Bellini. The professional dancer and the tennis player met in June 2025 at a Marracash concert in Turin and went public with their relationship later that year. They split in the summer of 2026. Around the same time, media reports indicated Lorenzo Musetti had ended his own long term relationship. This coincidence sparked unverified rumors of a connection between Musetti and Bellini. While no concrete evidence supports the affair allegations, the timing of the breakups and the subsequent social media silence between the two athletes has created a perfect storm for gossip.

The situation has led to questions about potential professional consequences. With Italy set to defend its Davis Cup title, team cohesion is vital. Some have wondered if the alleged rift could influence captain Filippo Volandri's selection decisions for the upcoming squad. Berrettini, a former world number six and a key part of Italy's 2024 winning team, brings significant big match experience. However, Volandri may weigh the atmosphere in the camp. As of now, there is no official indication that Berrettini has been dropped, but the rumor itself highlights how off court narratives can spill into professional considerations.

Vanessa Bellini is a 24 year old professional hip hop dancer from Novara, Italy. She gained national fame after appearing on the 2022 season of the Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi. Her career includes performing as a backing dancer for major artists like Elodie and Rose Villain at the Sanremo Music Festival, and she participated in the closing ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Her relationship with Berrettini, which lasted roughly one year, brought her into the international sports spotlight.

• Key Takeaways: Berrettini's tense Vienna Open interview response has become the flashpoint for rumors. The timeline of his split from Vanessa Bellini coincides with Musetti's reported breakup. Social media clues, like an unfollow, have added fuel to the speculation. The situation raises unofficial questions about team dynamics for Italy's Davis Cup defense.
