Kevin Owens Returns to NXT, Takes Shot at CM Punk While Praising New Talent

Kevin Owens made a significant return to his roots on October 17, competing in an NXT ring for the first time since 2019. The veteran star headlined a live event in Gatineau, Quebec, teaming with NXT's Tony D’Angelo, Shiloh Hill, and Kendal Grey to defeat the faction BirthRight in the main event.

Owens explained his decision in a post-match promo to the Quebec crowd. He said a key reason for accepting the spot was the chance to work with the next generation of WWE talent. "Knowing that I get to share the ring with people that are shaping the future of what WWE will be," Owens stated. He specifically praised his three partners, calling them not only the future but the present of the brand. The appearance was facilitated by a personal request from WWE Performance Center coach Steve Corino, whom Owens said he could not refuse despite a grueling travel schedule that included stops in Winnipeg and Sacramento earlier that week.

During his address to fans, Owens wove in a pointed remark about his current WWE storyline rival, CM Punk. He framed his recent on-screen struggles in character, telling the audience, "The last three weeks, I’ve been a struggle, because I’ve had to endure CM Punk’s company, and I don’t like that." Owens added, "Trust me, if you knew him, you’d also consider retirement, but I’m going to forge through for you guys." This comment continues to fuel their ongoing feud on WWE television, showing Owens is more than willing to blur the lines between scripted narrative and live event authenticity to engage the audience.

In a separate piece of video content, Owens was seen paying tribute to the lasting impact of fellow wrestler PAC. While specific details of the tribute were not elaborated in the available text, the act highlights Owens' respect for his peers and the broader wrestling industry. This acknowledgment of another performer's influence fits with his established role as a student of the game who values the craft's history and its key contributors.

The October 17 show in Gatineau culminated with Owens' team securing a victory over BirthRight, whose members are Lexis King, Charlie Dempsey, Uriah Connors, and Arianna Grace. Owens described the opposing quartet as "very talented idiots" but credited his own teammates for the win. The event marked a special homecoming for the Quebec-born star, who received a loud reception from the local fans, and served as a platform to raise the NXT talent sharing the ring with him.
