Jos Buttler Makes T20 History as England's First 15,000-Run

Jos Buttler has etched his name into cricket's record books, becoming the first player in history to score 15,000 runs in T20 cricket. The England wicketkeeper-batter achieved the landmark during the second T20I against Sri Lanka on 18 September 2026, surpassing West Indies great Kieron Pollard's previous record of 14,999 runs.

Buttler's Record-Breaking Innings

He reached the 15,000-run mark in just 528 T20 matches, a significantly faster rate than Pollard, who took 742 games to accumulate his tally. This historic knock followed an explosive 80 in the series opener, underlining his status as one of the format's most destructive and consistent batters.

England Seal Series with Dominant Display

England's victory in Cardiff secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, their 22nd win in 25 T20 matches. While Buttler provided the explosive start, Tom Banton's 24-ball fifty and a disciplined bowling performance led by Liam Dawson ensured a comfortable win. The team now heads to Manchester's Emirates Old Trafford for the final match on 19 September 2026, aiming for a clean sweep. Captain Harry Brook's side has demonstrated a clear class gap, having also won the first game by a massive 119-run margin.

Fantasy and Betting Spotlight on Buttler

Buttler's red-hot form has made him the central figure for fantasy cricket players and bettors ahead of the series finale. Major fantasy tips for the third T20I consistently list him as a top captaincy pick, while betting analysts highlight a 30+ runs market as a strong option. Sporting Life's Richard Mann noted Buttler's current 'sublime touch', pointing to his scores of 80 and 30 in the first two games and an average of 55.66 at Old Trafford during The Hundred. The venue is considered a high-scoring ground, where England famously posted 340 for 2 against South Africa almost exactly a year ago.

The final match at Old Trafford offers Sri Lanka a chance to salvage pride, but England's momentum appears unstoppable. With Buttler in record-breaking form, Brook fresh from a century in the first game, and Banton finding his rhythm, the batting lineup looks formidable. The bowling attack, potentially featuring Jofra Archer, has also been effective in restricting the visitors. The team's dominant run suggests they are firmly on track as they build towards future global tournaments.
