Islam Makhachev solidified his status as the undisputed No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world by successfully defending his welterweight title against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330. The unanimous decision victory on August 15 pushed the Dagestani star's record to 29-1 and tied the record for the most consecutive victories inside the Octagon.

By overcoming Garry at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Makhachev joined Anderson Silva with a historic 17-fight winning streak. UFC CEO Dana White was not impressed with Machado Garry's performance following the loss. Despite the hard-fought contest, White argued that Garry focused too much on showing respect for the champion rather than finishing the fight. Prates is currently considered the frontrunner for a title shot due to his string of highlight-reel knockouts over former champions Leon Edwards and Della Maddalena. While undefeated Michael Morales has been in the division longer, fans seem to favor a Prates matchup. The UFC must now decide between the explosive Prates or the consistent Morales for the belt.

Promotional guidelines totaled $327,000, with Jalin Turner, Dustin Stoltz, Charles Johnson, and Jeremiah Wells each earning $100,000 bonuses. Four other fighters earned $25,000 bonuses. In the co-main event, Mackenzie Dern defended her strawweight title against Gillian Robertson via unanimous decision.
