Barcelona signs Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal

Barcelona completed a transfer deadline day move for Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on Tuesday, signing the 29-year-old Brazil striker to a three-year contract. Jesus was part of Arsenal's Premier League title-winning squad last season, having previously lifted four league crowns with Manchester City. He joins Spanish champion Barcelona following the departure of Robert Lewandowski at the end of last season. Despite an injury-disrupted time at Arsenal, Jesus was part of the squad that ended the club's 22-year wait to be crowned English champion. He is the latest arrival in a busy transfer window for Barcelona, following deals for Anthony Gordon, Rodri, Joao Cancelo, Karim Adeyemi and Dominik Livakovic. Jesus's move comes as other major clubs, like Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, have also spent heavily on big-name signings in recent years, including Neymar and Gabriel Martinelli, as part of a league-wide financial boom that has seen salaries skyrocket, with Cristiano Ronaldo remaining the highest-paid player.
