Flavien Prat Rides Consequent to Victory in Seneca Overnight

Flavien Prat secured a significant stakes victory on Saturday, piloting the unbeaten filly Consequent to a commanding win in the $199,000 Seneca Overnight Stakes at Churchill Downs. The win highlighted a demanding but successful day for the jockey, who also finished a close second in another graded stakes race after riding earlier in the day at Parx Racing.

Racing for owner Juddmonte and trainer Bob Baffert, Consequent took command with a half-mile remaining in the 1 1/16-mile race. She then turned back challenges leaving the far turn and powered away to win by 4¾ lengths over Answered Prayers. The daughter of Into Mischief covered the distance on a fast track in 1:43.06, earning a career-best 95 Brisnet Speed Rating. This was her fourth consecutive victory and her second stakes win, keeping her perfect record intact.

Just before Consequent's triumph, Prat was narrowly denied another major win aboard the Bob Baffert-trained Explora in the $300,000 Dogwood Stakes (G3). Explora, the heavy 1-4 favorite, set the early pace but was caught right at the wire by Juddmonte's Conceit, ridden by Mario Gutierrez. The margin of victory was just a head. Despite the defeat, Explora ran a strong race and posted a 94 Brisnet Speed Rating for her effort.

The jockey's Saturday required a cross-country commute. He rode in seven races during the afternoon on the Pennsylvania Derby Day card at Parx Racing in Pennsylvania, finishing second aboard Further Ado in one of them. He then flew to Louisville, Kentucky, to ride under the lights at Churchill Downs. Prat credited Explora's co-owner Mike Pegram for facilitating the quick transition. "Thanks to Mr. Pegram, I was able to fly on his plane from Parx to Churchill Downs and got here with plenty of time," Prat said. "I was ready to go, and I'm glad things worked out with Consequent winning and Explora running a big race."

The day's efforts by the two Baffert-trained fillies were particularly noteworthy. Consequent's dominant win and new top speed figure suggest she is a rising talent in the three-year-old filly division. Explora's gritty performance in defeat against a late-closing rival also demonstrated her quality. Both horses made the long trip from their California base worthwhile with their performances.

• Flavien Prat won the $199,000 Seneca Overnight Stakes aboard the unbeaten Consequent.
• He also finished a close second in the Grade 3 Dogwood Stakes with favorite Explora.
• Prat rode at two tracks in one day, flying from Parx Racing to Churchill Downs.
• Both fillies are trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert and owned by Juddmonte.

Prat's ability to deliver top performances under a tight travel schedule shows his status as one of the sport's premier riders. His collaboration with trainer Bob Baffert continues to yield major results, as evidenced by the powerful one-two punch at Churchill Downs. The immediate future for Consequent looks bright following her latest display of superiority.
