Didier Drogba Launches Contrepied to Combat Football Violence and Inspire East Africa

Didier Drogba joins Laure Boulleau to launch Contrepied, an association dedicated to reducing violence in football and promoting respect, while urging East Africa to seize the historic AFCON opportunity.

Laure Boulleau announced the creation of Contrepied on October 19, 2026, to address the growing incivility affecting players, referees and families across football levels. The Canal+ consultant emphasized that the documentary she produced, broadcast on Sunday, highlights the urgent need for change and aims to preserve the sport’s core values of pleasure, respect and transmission.

Contrepied structures its action around three axes: awareness through the documentary, prevention via educational tools for youth and parents, and innovation through its Ideas Lab that supports clubs adopting new solutions. The initiative seeks to reverse the trend of trivialized physical and verbal abuse that has made some parents hesitant to register their children.

Drogba’s participation adds weight to Contrepied’s mission, leveraging his global profile to spotlight the issue. The former Chelsea striker has long been vocal about football’s social responsibilities and now lends his voice to a cause that aligns with his belief that the game must remain a source of joy and mutual respect.

Drogba urged East African nations to seize the historic AFCON opportunity, calling on them to capitalize on the tournament’s platform to inspire change and development in their football ecosystems. The region’s teams are poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming competition.
