Demi Vollering joins elite riders for Curaçao MTB race

Demi Vollering has confirmed her participation in the Curaçao MTB race, joining a strong field of road and cross specialists.

The Curaçao MTB race is an annual off-road event attracting top cyclists from disciplines including road, mountain bike and cyclo-cross. Held on the Caribbean island, it features technical jungle trails and sandy coastal sections that test bike handling and endurance. Vollering’s entry follows recent appearances by Marianne Vos, Annemiek van Vleuten and others who use the race for winter training and skill development.

Vollering will line up alongside Lorena Wiebes, who won the women’s road race at the 2023 World Championships, and Niki Terpstra, the former Tour of Flanders winner. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, the current UCI Mountain Bike World Champion, is also set to start. The men’s field includes Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert, though they compete in a separate elite category.

After ending her 2026 road season with a top-ten finish at the Giro d’Italia Femminile, Vollering has shifted focus to recovery and off-road preparation. Her Curaçao start, scheduled for 27 November 2026, is part of a planned winter block that includes cyclo-cross events in Belgium and a training camp in Spain. She has not raced mountain bike competitively since 2021 but cites the discipline as key to improving her bike control on technical descents.

While Vollering remains primarily a road rider, she aims to use mountain bike and cyclo-cross to maintain intensity without the joint load of long road miles. Her coach has emphasized improved cornering and explosive power as key targets. She has not ruled out a full cyclo-cross campaign but insists her priority remains the 2027 Ardennes classics and World Championships.
