Blake Griffin Launches Late-Night Comedy Show The Stepback with First Trailer

Blake Griffin is making a major move into television with the launch of his own late-night comedy show. The former NBA All-Star has released the first trailer for The Stepback, a new series that blends sports commentary with humor for a live studio audience.

The Stepback aims to look beyond the box score. Griffin will host the show from behind a classic talk show desk, promising to examine the bigger cultural issues in sports. The trailer previews segments on topics like sports gambling, NIL deals, athlete marijuana use, and taxpayer-funded stadiums. It’s a platform for Griffin to use his basketball experience and comedic interests, having previously worked as an analyst for NBA coverage on Prime Video. One joke in the preview even pokes fun at the oversaturation of video podcasts in sports media.

In his new role as a commentator, Griffin has been sharing sharp insights on current NBA stars. He recently explained why San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama should scare the rest of the league. Griffin’s point is that Wembanyama, who just led the Spurs to the NBA Finals, can still improve dramatically. That potential for growth is what makes the 22-year-old French superstar so daunting for opponents. Griffin also highlighted Spurs guard Dylan Harper as another young talent with the makings of a special player.

Griffin has also weighed in on the Eastern Conference landscape, calling the race “really tough.” He specifically backed LeBron James to be a big change for his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers. Griffin expects the 41-year-old James, now in his 24th season, to perform at a high level and immediately fire the 76ers into the championship conversation. This prediction adds to the heightened expectations surrounding Philadelphia's latest superteam construction.

Griffin’s foray into entertainment has also resurfaced a classic, cringe-worthy moment from his past. He recently tried to forget an old promotional mishap from his Clippers days, but the internet had other plans. The incident involved a poorly fitting and hastily made Blake Griffin jersey shirt that was part of a failed marketing campaign. The story recirculated widely, much to Griffin’s chagrin, showing that even as he moves forward with new projects, his memorable NBA career continues to provide content.

• New Venture: Blake Griffin is the host and creator of the new late-night comedy series The Stepback, with a trailer now released.
• NBA Analysis: Griffin believes Victor Wembanyama’s ceiling is “terrifying” for rivals and sees LeBron James making the 76ers instant title contenders.
• Blast from the Past: An infamous Clippers jersey shirt blunder from earlier in his career has found new life online.

Griffin’s pivot from power forward to presenter is in full swing. His show offers a fresh, comedic lens on the sports world, while his analyst takes keep him connected to the league's current narratives. And as the viral jersey story proves, his own history remains a rich source of material.
