Austin Cindric Boosts Chase Hopes with Richmond Performance

2026-08-25 · Austin Cindric · Player Focus

Austin Cindric delivered a much-needed performance at Richmond, finishing third to give himself a buffer on the Chase cutline. Austin Cindric had entered Richmond as the final provisional driver into the Chase field, 16th with just a 29-point advantage. That cushion grew to 57 by night’s end with just two regular-season races remaining.

Can Cindric Hold On To His Chase Spot?

Cindric’s performance at Richmond was a welcome boost, but he knows he cannot afford to relax. Ryan Preece and Shane van Gisbergen are still in the hunt for a Chase spot, and Daytona will be a crucial race. Cindric qualified 23rd, but he averaged a top-five running position throughout 400 laps. The No. 2 team of Cindric was the second-best Penske car on the night as Joey Logano went to victory lane.

  • Cindric finished third at Richmond to boost his Chase hopes
  • He now has a 57-point cushion on the Chase cutline
  • Daytona will be the final regular-season race on August 29

What's Next for Cindric?

Cindric will look to build on his Richmond performance at New Hampshire next week. He will need to maintain his consistency to ensure a spot in the 16-driver Chase field. Cindric had said entering Richmond that ticking each box on the team’s checklist and maximizing every factor in the races ahead would be pivotal. Saturday was the fulfillment of that vision.
