Aryna Sabalenka Resets on Beach and at UFC Before WTA Finals Showdown

2026-10-27 · Aryna Sabalenka · Player Focus

Aryna Sabalenka is taking a mental and physical reset before the final and most important tournament of her 2026 season. The world number two is enjoying a beach holiday and even took in a night of UFC fights in Abu Dhabi, seeking fresh energy for the upcoming WTA Finals in Indian Wells.

After her last match, a second-round loss to Ann Li at the Wuhan Open on October 14, Sabalenka traded the pressure of the court for sun and sand. She shared photos on Instagram posing in a leopard-print bikini, jumping in the waves with friends like Lolita Lazarenko. This beach escape offers a glimpse of a relaxed Sabalenka, one focused on life's simple pleasures before the competitive grind resumes.

Her preparation also included a different kind of spectacle. On Saturday night, Sabalenka was a VIP guest at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi's Etihad Arena. She recorded a message for fans from her seat, saying, "Hey guys, I am here at the UFC. I'm loving the fights. Great atmosphere. I'm really enjoying it." The trip resonated with her personal mantra, symbolized by the tiger tattoo on her forearm. "You know the tiger loves a good fight," she noted, embracing the aggressive mindset she brings to tennis.

The visit provided an unexpected moment when the broadcast team stumbled. The arena graphic identified her as "2-time Australian Open & 2-time US Open Champion Aryna Sabalenko," misspelling her surname with an 'o'. Commentator Jon Anik also used the incorrect "Sabalenko" during the introduction. Sabalenka took the blunder in stride, staying all smiles in the crowd.

Sabalenka's year began with dominant promise. She opened by winning the Brisbane International in January, beating Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3 for her 22nd career title. She then achieved a rare Sunshine Double, winning both Indian Wells and the Miami Open back-to-back, defeating Elena Rybakina in both finals.

But her form has stalled since that Miami triumph. She has not lifted another WTA trophy. Her recent run includes five consecutive WTA 1000 tournaments without reaching a quarterfinal, her worst such streak since 2019. Rybakina has become a particular obstacle, overtaking Sabalenka for the most titles won in 2026 so far.

All roads now lead to the WTA Finals, which begin on November 9 in Indian Wells. It represents her final challenge of the year and a chance to reclaim momentum against the tour's best. The event will test whether her beach relaxation and fight-night inspiration can translate back into winning tennis on the sport's biggest stage.
