2026-08-20 · Anthony Edwards · Player Focus

Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball are forming a dynamic duo for the Minnesota Timberwolves, and former NBA star Jamal Crawford believes their chemistry could be a game-changer. The pair, both 25 years old, are set to lead the Timberwolves in the 2026 season, with Crawford highlighting their selfless attitudes and strong off-court relationship.

Why the Timberwolves Are Excited

The addition of LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves raises expectations for the team's postseason prospects. Minnesota needed a reliable second option alongside Anthony Edwards, and Ball's scoring and playmaking abilities could provide just that. Crawford noted, "You can tell their chemistry is something different… I can see either one going off and the other one be like 'nah it's all you, I'm gonna get you going' like they have that respect for each other."

LaMelo Ball's Impact

LaMelo Ball has averaged over 7 assists per game in his first six NBA seasons, showcasing his ability to set up teammates for success. His partnership with Anthony Edwards could elevate the Timberwolves to a top team in the Western Conference. Crawford also emphasized the importance of their shared age and draft class, suggesting that their bond will only strengthen on the court.

The Road to the NBA Finals

While Anthony Edwards has led the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals twice, LaMelo Ball's deepest playoff run was the Play-In Tournament last season. The hope is that Ball's arrival will be the final piece needed to propel the Timberwolves into the NBA Finals in June 2026. Crawford believes that if the duo continues to support each other, winning an NBA championship together is within reach.
