Tom Pidcock Wins Olympic Mountain Bike Gold

Tom Pidcock won his second straight Olympic mountain bike gold medal on a dramatic final lap.

What happened?

Pidcock overcame a punctured tire to track down Victor Koretzky and win the gold.

The British athlete took the lead on the last lap with an audacious move.

Koretzky went right around a tree, while Pidcock went left, and they bumped when they came back together.

The mountain bike judges examined the final pass but allowed the result to stand.

Pidcock said he was feeling "a bit all over the place" after the win.

He added that the Olympics is the biggest thing for him and to be able to win despite the puncture was "pretty incredible".

Pidcock will celebrate his birthday before turning his attention to Saturday's road race.

He said he would spend time with his family and think about the road race after tomorrow.

The weather made conditions tough at Elancourt Hill, with the sun beating mercilessly on riders and spectators.

Pidcock joined Paola Pezzo and Julien Absalon as the only riders with two mountain bike gold medals from the Summer Games.

Stephen Park, the British team's performance director, said Pidcock's win was "unlike anything we have seen for a large number of years".

Pidcock had to withdraw from the Tour de France about two weeks ago when he contracted COVID-19.
