Ronaldo Nazário urges Neymar to reconsider Brazil retirement

Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazário has urged Neymar to reconsider his decision to retire from international football. The 34-year-old Neymar announced his retirement after Brazil’s round-of-16 exit to Norway in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but Ronaldo believes the decision was made in the heat of the moment.

What happened at the World Cup?

Neymar played a key role in Brazil’s campaign despite his long injury layoff. He scored a penalty against Norway, becoming only the second Brazilian to score in four different World Cups after Pelé. With 80 international goals, Neymar is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer and second only to Cafu in appearances.

Why Ronaldo Nazário stepped in

Ronaldo, the 2002 World Cup winner, emphasized that Neymar should not make any hasty decisions. He pointed out that Neymar had just returned from a serious ACL injury and needed time to regain full fitness. Ronaldo also suggested that Neymar could still contribute to Brazil’s national team in the future if he stays injury-free.

What’s next for Neymar?

Ronaldo believes Neymar will regain his form and confidence once he returns to club football. He also hinted that Neymar could still be an option for Brazil in future tournaments, including the next World Cup in 2030. Neymar’s experience and technical ability could still be valuable to the Seleção if he remains physically fit.
