What happened at Spa in 2019?

On August 31, 2019, Anthoine Hubert and Juan Manuel Correa were involved in a fatal crash during a Formula 2 race at Spa. Hubert, a close friend of Gasly, died that evening, while Correa survived with serious injuries. The accident cast a shadow over the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, and Gasly has since made it a tradition to pay tribute to Hubert during the event.

Why the memorial run matters to Pierre Gasly

Gasly, who was part of the Renault junior program alongside Hubert, described the run as an emotional but important way to remember his friend. 'It’s always emotional to return to Spa,' Gasly said. 'Every year, the memory of Anthoine is with us. That’s why I’m organizing the run for Anthoine again on Thursday evening.'

The seven-kilometer jog includes two moments of remembrance: one at Eau Rouge, where Gasly has previously laid flowers, and another on the Kemmel Straight, honoring both Hubert and Dilano van’t Hoff, who died in a 2023 FRECA crash at the same circuit.
