Pierre Gasly blasts Alpine’s F1 package after Colapinto scores in Belgium

2026-07-22 · Pierre Gasly · Player Focus

Pierre Gasly has delivered a fresh assessment of Alpine’s Formula 1 car, labelling its current package ‘not good enough’ after Franco Colapinto salvaged a single point for the team in Belgium on Sunday.

What happened in Belgium?

Colapinto finished 10th in Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix, securing Alpine’s first points of the season. The Argentine rookie edged out Williams’ Alex Albon at the line in a late-race duel. Gasly, Alpine’s lead driver, had already called out the car’s shortcomings before the race.

Why it matters for Pierre Gasly

Gasly’s blunt verdict came as Alpine’s struggles deepen. The Frenchman has now twice criticised the team’s machinery this season. His latest remarks follow a first-lap exit in Hungary two weeks ago. Colapinto’s point offered a rare bright spot amid the gloom.

And the pressure is rising. Alpine sits 10th in the constructors’ championship with just one point. Gasly’s frustration reflects the team’s wider crisis. The French squad has yet to score a top-five finish in 2026.

What comes next?

Gasly’s next race is the Dutch Grand Prix on 24 August. Alpine’s technical team faces a tight deadline to turn things around. Colapinto’s debut point buys time, but Gasly’s words show the clock is ticking.

The Belgian Grand Prix took place on 20 July 2026.
