Mo Farah Shares Running Tips and Career Highlights

Mo Farah, the renowned track and field athlete, has shared his insights on running and his career highlights.

Getting into Running

Mo Farah started running at age 12, thanks to his PE teacher, Alan Watkinson, who discovered his talent and encouraged him to join a local running club. He never looked back, going on to win numerous titles, including two Olympic gold medals. His journey to success was not easy, having been trafficked to the UK at age 9 and forced into domestic servitude.

Career Highlights

Mo Farah's most memorable win was at the London 2012 Olympics, where he became the first British man to win the 10,000m gold. He also won the 5,000m gold at the same Olympics, and successfully defended both titles four years later in Rio. Mo Farah retired from competitive running in September 2023, after an incredible career spanning over two decades.

Training and Stamina

To increase running stamina, Mo Farah recommends doing more mileage and intervals, such as 800m repeats. He also emphasizes the importance of having a goal, especially for those starting to run in midlife. Mo Farah's training regime varied depending on the event he was preparing for, with more volume for marathon training.

Enjoying Running

Mo Farah enjoys racing, which motivates him to train hard and prepare for competitions. When running, he thinks about his tactics and strategy, as well as his family and what he's preparing for dinner. Mo Farah now spends his time with his family, getting children into sport, and working with charities, including Mind and Save the Children UK. He was instrumental in helping others pursue their talent for running, thanks to the support of his PE teacher, Alan Watkinson.
