Michael van Gerwen Withdraws from Players Championship 8

Michael van Gerwen will not participate in Tuesday's Players Championship 8.

What happened?

He was eliminated early from Players Championship 7.

Michael van Gerwen lost to Niko Springer on Monday afternoon in Hildesheim.

Van Gerwen missed seven darts on the outer ring in the first leg.

He was broken by a 23-darter from Springer.

Van Gerwen trailed and missed three chances in the ninth leg to come back to 4-5.

Springer took the win 6-3 by throwing out 86 on March 18, 2025.

So far this season, Van Gerwen earned only 4,500 pounds at the Players Championship tournaments.

He has skipped four of the eight tournaments.

Van Gerwen was eliminated in the first round at two tournaments and once in the second round.

Van Gerwen will take on Luke Humphries in the Premier League Darts in Cardiff on Wednesday.

He has no extra rest time due to his cancellation from Players Championship 8.

Adam Gawlas will replace Van Gerwen in the tournament.

Van Gerwen did manage to reach the quarterfinals at Players Championship 5.

He is expected to perform well in the Premier League Darts.

The Dutchman will look to bounce back from his early exit in Hildesheim.
