Maverick Viñales Fights Injury to Secure MotoGP Future

Maverick Viñales is determined to recover from his shoulder injury and secure his MotoGP future. The Spaniard has been plagued by the issue since a violent highside during last July's German Grand Prix qualifying.

What happened?

Maverick Viñales' injury has forced him to withdraw from several races, including the third race in Austin, where he underwent another surgery on his left shoulder.

The Tech3 rider has only managed one points finish in 2026, an 11th place finish in Catalan, heading into this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Why it matters for Maverick Viñales

Vinales' fitness issues have come during a crucial stage in the silly season, with only a handful of seats remaining on the rider market, including the two Tech3 seats.

KTM has already signed Alex Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio for the factory team, leaving Vinales, Brad Binder, and Senna Agius vying for the remaining spots.

What comes next?

Maverick Viñales is targeting a return to full fitness by the Czech GP on 21 June, after a good recovery from a hard weekend in Mugello, where he felt his body had recovered well.

Vinales added that he doesn't have to convince anyone that he will make a full recovery, pointing to his impressive results in 2025 prior to the shoulder injury, including a provisional second place in the Qatar GP.

The Spaniard is confident that he will regain his form, saying 'I don't have to convince nobody' and that his focus is on recovering 100% from the injury.

Maverick Viñales' determination to recover and secure his MotoGP future will be put to the test in the coming weeks, as he looks to regain his strength and compete at the highest level.

The Czech GP on 21 June will be a crucial milestone in Vinales' recovery, as he aims to be back to full strength and compete for a spot on the grid in 2027.
