Kenny Omega’s six-month run tops wrestling, says Don Callis

Don Callis has reversed course on Kenny Omega, calling the AEW star’s last six months the best run by any wrestler in the business.

I’m going to compliment Tyson Smith,” Callis said. “The match with MJF was an incredible pro wrestling match. I was blown away. I was someone who did not think we would ever see the old Kenny Omega.”

He added that Omega’s recent run has been “truly something special” and that nobody has matched his six-month stretch. “He has had the best six months of anyone in wrestling,” Callis said. “I don’t know how else you can say it.”

Callis noted that Omega now looks comfortable in his own skin for the first time. “For the first time in all the time I’ve known him, he looks like he’s really comfortable, in the groove,” Callis said. “I think he won that match against Max partly because he was like, ‘Screw it. I’m all in.’”

Callis also called Omega “the God of Pro Wrestling” in the moment, though he stopped short of confirming the nickname sticks long-term. “Is he still what I nicknamed him, the God of Pro Wrestling? I don’t know, but right now he is for sure,” he said.

Callis placed the MJF vs. Omega bout above even elite sporting art. “I thought credit to both those guys. I thought just a beautiful pro wrestling match to watch,” he said. “That match with Max and Kenny was professional wrestling as an art form at the next level. It had everything in it for me.”

He compared the contest to World Cup soccer, calling it “the beautiful game” in action. “They talk about World Cup soccer like it’s the beautiful game, right? When you watch it, it really is incredible,” Callis added.
