Josh Allen Leads Bills in Turning Average Throws into Elite Value

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills turned average throws into elite production in 2025, according to Pro Football Focus' 2026 Annual report. Allen led all qualifying quarterbacks with 0.173 expected points added (EPA) per attempt on neutral-graded throws, per PFF's grading scale.

What Did PFF Find?

PFF's analysis highlights Allen's ability to maximize efficiency. On 335 zero-graded throws-those deemed average by PFF's scale-Allen averaged 6.59 yards per attempt, the highest mark among starters. Jared Goff ranked second in EPA per attempt (0.090), while Davis Mills, Joe Flacco, and Spencer Rattler occupied the bottom.

Why Does This Matter for Allen?

Allen's performance places him among elite offensive systems. Since 2006, quarterbacks with high yards-per-attempt on neutral throws often played in top-tier offenses. Allen's 6.59 mark aligns with past standouts like Matt Ryan (2016 Falcons) and Jimmy Garoppolo (2021 49ers).

What Made the Bills' Offense So Effective?

PFF credits Allen's execution but also the Bills' infrastructure. The 2025 offense consistently turned ordinary plays into efficient gains, giving Allen one of the most favorable environments in the PFF era. Allen still had to distribute accurately and avoid negative plays, but the system amplified his strengths.
