Jordan Chiles Wins Perfect Ten, Nears Gym Slam

Jordan Chiles achieved a perfect ten on vault last weekend, moving closer to the elusive Gym Slam. On Saturday, Chiles earned her first perfect ten on vault, taking the penultimate step towards this rare milestone.

What is the Gym Slam?

The Gym Slam represents a golden standard of excellence in college gymnastics, belonging to only the sport’s most iconic names.

Only 15 athletes have achieved this feat, including Olympic medalists Jade Carey, Kyla Ross, Bridget Sloan, and Courtney Kupets.

Why it matters for Jordan Chiles

Achieving a perfect score on all four events is an honor reserved for the most well-rounded of college gymnasts.

Jordan Chiles seeks both the Gym Slam and individual conference and NCAA all-around titles this year, having previously finished second in both the Big Ten and NCAA all-around rankings.

What comes next?

Chiles will face a tough test in week four of NCAA competition, as No. 5 UCLA travels to East Lansing, MI, to take on conference rival Michigan State on Sunday, January 25.

The meet will be broadcast live on FOX at 1:00 p.m. ET, with fans able to watch Jordan Chiles chase her Gym Slam.

Chiles nearly achieved the ‘slam’ at Saturday’s dual meet versus Nebraska, earning a near-perfect 9.975 on the balance beam.

She received a 10.0 from one judge and a 9.95 from the other, marking her second 9.975 in three weeks of competition.

The Bruins will face a loftier test in their upcoming meet, but Chiles' strong scores have helped UCLA to a dominant win over Big Ten foe Nebraska.

On January 25, Chiles and No. 5 UCLA will look to continue their success against Michigan State.

The preseason No. 7 Spartans could find renewed energy in their first home meet of the season, slated to occur in MSU’s Breslin Center.

Jordan Chiles' performance on the balance beam will be crucial in her pursuit of the Gym Slam, as she looks to execute ‘perfection’ on the event.

With her sights set on the Gym Slam, Chiles will look to draw on her experience as a two-time Olympian to achieve this rare milestone.

The meet against Michigan State will be a key test for Chiles and the Bruins, as they look to maintain their position in the NCAA rankings.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Jordan Chiles as she chases the Gym Slam and individual conference and NCAA all-around titles.
