Jonas Vingegaard Prepares for Tour de France with Strong Support Squad

Jonas Vingegaard will be supported by a strong squad at the Tour de France, with Davide Piganzoli replacing injured Wout van Aert in the lineup.

What happened?

Visma-Lease a Bike announced their squad for the Tour de France, with no real surprises in the eight-man team heading to Barcelona on July 4. The team will be led by American pairing Sepp Kuss and Matteo Jorgenson, who have nine Tour appearances between them.

Why it matters for Jonas Vingegaard

Vingegaard is aiming to become the ninth rider to complete the men's Giro-Tour double, following in the wheeltracks of Eddy Merckx and Fausto Coppi. He will face strong competition from rival Tadej Pogačar, who he will go head-to-head with in July. Davide Piganzoli, a 23-year-old Italian, will make his career Tour debut as the youngest member of the Visma squad.

What comes next?

The Tour de France will start on July 4 in Barcelona, with Vingegaard and his team looking to make a strong start. Piganzoli won La Route d'Occitanie earlier this month and will be looking to build on that success. The team's rouleur core, including Victor Campenaerts, Edoardo Affini, and Per Strand Hagenes, will play a key role in controlling the peloton and supporting Vingegaard. Vingegaard's experience and strong support squad make him a strong contender for the Tour de France title. The team's time trial specialist, Bruno Armirail, will also be looking to make an impact. As the youngest member of the team, Piganzoli will be looking to learn from his experienced teammates. The Tour de France will be a challenging but exciting experience for Piganzoli, who has already shown his potential with a strong performance at the Giro d'Italia. With a strong squad behind him, Vingegaard will be looking to make history and complete the men's Giro-Tour double. The stage is set for an exciting Tour de France, with Vingegaard and Pogačar set to go head-to-head in a battle for the title.
