John McEnroe Opens Tennis Center

John McEnroe, the seven-time Grand Slam champion, has opened a tennis center in the Bahamas. The John McEnroe Tennis Center at Baha Mar has eight tennis courts and six pickleball courts.

The goal is to change as many lives as possible through tennis. McEnroe has more than 50 kids on scholarship at his New York academy.

McEnroe says the Bahamian tennis center is a natural extension of his New York academy. He wants to exchange kids between the two locations so they can experience different training conditions.

Upcoming events

The Baha Mar Cup, a four-day celebration of tennis, philanthropy, and island life, will take place in December. The event aims to raise $300,000 for Bahamian youth tennis programs.

McEnroe will co-host the event, which will feature a celebrity pro-am pairing touring players with big names. He has hosted clinics for kids and adults at the tennis center and will return in December for the Baha Mar Cup.

The tennis center is part of the Baha Mar resort complex, which includes three hotels and over 45 restaurants and lounges. McEnroe loves the beach and wants to bring his wife and kids to the resort.

He admits to avoiding the resort's casino, as he's not a big fan of losing. McEnroe has six kids and grandkids, and he wants to have some money left for them.

The Baha Mar Cup will add a new celebrity pro-am event, pairing touring players with big names like Mark Knowles. Proceeds will benefit the Baha Mar Resort Foundation and the Mark Knowles Children's Tennis Initiative.
