Joel Embiid trade value drops amid injury concerns and workload limits

Joel Embiid’s trade market is nearly dead right now, analysts say

Joel Embiid’s trade value has collapsed because of injuries and workload limits. Philadelphia 76ers insiders now say no team would take him without major incentives.

What happened?

On 15 Jul 2026, Yahoo Sports Daily hosts Caroline Fenton and Jason Fitz joined PHLY Sports NBA reporter Kyle Neubeck to break down why the Sixers cannot trade Joel Embiid right now. Embiid has missed too many games over the past three seasons to draw real interest. Neubeck argued that teams would demand extra draft picks or cash just to absorb the risk of bringing him in.

Why Embiid’s value is so low

Embiid has played 65 games or more just twice in the last decade. Over the last three seasons combined, he’s logged barely a full season of action. That lack of recent availability makes teams hesitant. Neubeck said teams would need heavy compensation to even consider a deal-something the Sixers can’t justify giving up.

The Sixers still have three years left on Embiid’s contract. His deal becomes a burden if his health doesn’t improve. Even LeBron James would need proof Embiid can stay on the floor to buy into a partnership. Right now, that proof isn’t there.

What comes next for Embiid and the Sixers

Embiid’s trade outlook could shift if his health rebounds. A clean bill of health next season might restore some demand. But with three years left, the Sixers have to ride it out unless his status changes dramatically.

Neubeck suggested the Sixers may wait until Embiid’s deal nears expiration. At that point, he could become a short-term rental for a contender. Until then, the Sixers are stuck with him-and with him stuck on the bench more often than not.
