Franco Morbidelli targets fresh MotoGP start after Sachsenring struggles

Franco Morbidelli endured another tough weekend at the Sachsenring MotoGP, finishing 13th in Sunday's race after a crash in the sprint. Now, the VR46 Ducati rider is using the summer break to regroup ahead of his final MotoGP races.

What happened at the Sachsenring?

Morbidelli qualified 7th but faced setbacks early. A grid penalty for dawdling dropped him to 10th for the main race. He lost positions at the start and struggled to recover, crossing the line 13th. His sprint race ended early after a lap 7 crash while running 10th.

Why the summer break is crucial

The 31-year-old has had a difficult 2026 season, with only one podium in 11 races. His best result came in Jerez's sprint race, where he finished third. Currently 16th in the standings with 46 points, Morbidelli sees the four-week break as a chance to reset. 'I’ll use this time to regroup,' he said.

What comes next for Morbidelli?

With no MotoGP seat for 2027, Morbidelli is targeting a move to World Superbikes. Before that, he aims to finish his final MotoGP season strong. 'This bike has great potential,' he noted, hinting at a push for better results in the second half of 2026.
