Franco Colapinto Replaces Logan Sargeant at Williams

Franco Colapinto is set to make his Formula 1 debut with Williams, replacing Logan Sargeant for the remainder of the season. The Argentine driver will jump into the deep end, competing at the pinnacle of motorsport.

What led to the replacement?

Williams announced the decision after Logan Sargeant endured a suboptimal campaign. The American driver's performance led to speculation about a midseason driver swap.

Who is Franco Colapinto?

Franco Colapinto began karting at nine years old and won at the 2018 Youth Summer Olympics. He moved to the F4 Spanish Championship, finishing 12th and winning in 2019. Colapinto finished third in the Formula Renault Eurocup and Castrol Toyota Racing Series in 2020. He competed in seven different series the following year, including sportscars.

What can Williams expect?

Colapinto has only done a single FP1 outing and last year's Abu Dhabi post-season test. He is still competing in F2 and is nine points ahead of Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Colapinto said: "It is an honor to be making my Formula 1 debut with Williams: this is what dreams are made of." The team has amazing history and a mission to get back to the front. Colapinto is fully focused on working as hard as he can with Alex and the team to make it a success. Williams added Colapinto to its academy in 2023 when he was 19 years old. The team said at the time that he would be immersed with the team both trackside and at the factory in Grove. Colapinto will work closely with various departments across Williams to hone his skills. He will conduct simulator work to provide useful feedback for car development. The Argentine driver is readying to hop into a Formula One car at Monza, making his grand prix debut.
