Fernando Alonso urged to make Formula E move after Alberto Longo’s call

Formula E’s Alberto Longo urges Fernando Alonso to decide on electric racing switch

Fernando Alonso now faces a clear choice on Formula E after Alberto Longo, the series’ managing director, publicly invited the two-time F1 champion to join the electric series. The call came on 15 July 2026, putting Alonso’s future racing path under fresh scrutiny.

What did Alberto Longo say?

Alberto Longo, Formula E’s managing director, told reporters Alonso only needs to make a call to enter the electric series. Longo framed the move as a simple decision for the Spaniard, who remains a free agent after his Aston Martin exit. “Fernando just needs to make a call,” Longo said. “If he’s interested, we’re here.”

Why Formula E wants Alonso

Formula E sees Alonso as a potential star power boost. The series has struggled to match F1’s global pull, and a late-career Alonso move would bring instant credibility. Longo argued Alonso’s name alone would draw fans and media attention. “His presence would change the conversation,” Longo added. The series has no official Spanish driver this season.

What happens next for Alonso?

Alonso remains without a 2027 seat after Aston Martin’s exit from F1. A Formula E switch would mark a radical shift from internal combustion to full-electric racing. The series’ Gen3 cars hit 200 mph on street circuits, offering a different challenge. Alonso has not commented on Longo’s remarks.

The bigger picture in electric racing

Formula E’s push for Alonso comes as the series ramps up its 2026-27 season. The championship’s calendar now includes double-headers in Berlin, Jakarta and Rome, aiming to tighten its calendar gaps. Longo stressed Alonso’s arrival could accelerate the series’ commercial growth. “We’re ready to welcome him,” Longo said. “The door is open.”
