Fabio Quartararo Battles for Top Spots in MotoGP Qualifying

Fabio Quartararo finished just ahead of Pedro Acosta in the MotoGP qualifying session on 18 Jun. He pulled off a sensational lap on the Yamaha.

What happened?

The Frenchman battled for the top two spots in the Q1 session. He competed against Franco Morbidelli and Joan Mir.

Quartararo's performance is significant as he aims to secure a strong starting position. Aprilia made history with a front-row lockout.

Jorge Martin took pole ahead of Ai Ogura and Marco Bezzecchi. Raul Fernandez briefly set a pole time but had it taken away due to track limits.

The Aprilia bikes made up the top four. Marc Marquez could only manage a P7 start after several of his fast laps were deleted.

Pedro Acosta suffered an engine cut-out and was forced to retire into the pits. He still managed to finish in P8, just behind Quartararo.

Quartararo's teammate, Franco Morbidelli, lost time in the final sector. This enabled Joan Mir to go through to the next session.

Brazilian rookie Diogo Moreira had a high-speed crash but was thankfully unharmed. Miller also crashed out of the session but was uninjured.

The Dutch Grand Prix in Assen saw a hotly contested Q1 session. The top riders competed for the best starting positions.

Aprilia's strong showing from Friday continued into the qualifying session. Their bikes dominated the front row, with Jorge Martin taking pole.
