Dricus du Plessis Slams UFC Plans for Khamzat Chimaev's Comeback Fight

Dricus du Plessis, the former UFC middleweight champion, has spoken out against the UFC's plans to book a title shot for Khamzat Chimaev, who is set to return from a loss.

What's behind the UFC's decision?

The UFC is reportedly considering giving Khamzat Chimaev an immediate rematch against Sean Strickland, who outpointed him in May. However, du Plessis disputes this decision, citing his own experience as a titleholder.

"I defended my title twice," du Plessis said in an interview. "The Khamzat rematch is ridiculous. It doesn't make any sense."

Du Plessis' own comeback

Du Plessis will be looking to propel himself back into title contention at UFC Oklahoma City on Saturday night, where he'll face former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in the main event. The South African fighter has been out of action since losing his middleweight belt to Khamzat Chimaev last August.

"I'll just fight my way back," du Plessis said. "After my performance, let my performance speak. That's the thing."

What's next for du Plessis?

If du Plessis emerges victorious against Usman, he's expected to call out Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev. However, for now, he's focused on his upcoming bout.

"You can't really say too much, but the fight's five days away," du Plessis said. "I'll do my talking there, and I'll prove once again why I am the best in the world."

The event takes place on Saturday, July 18, at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
