Daniil Medvedev Reflects on Losses to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Daniil Medvedev has been on a strong run of form this season, climbing to fourth place in the race to the ATP Finals. He recently lost to Jannik Sinner in Rome, but took time to reflect on his matches against Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

What happened in Rome?

Medvedev played against Sinner for the 17th time in Rome, but it marked their first encounter on clay. He noted that Sinner's game is quite similar on every surface, but he might actually move even better on clay.

Medvedev has played against Sinner twice already this season, losing both times. He lost in two tie-break sets at Indian Wells, and then in a tight three-setter in Rome.

How does Medvedev match up against Sinner and Alcaraz?

Medvedev said there's still a big gap in terms of consistency between him and Sinner and Alcaraz. However, he's encouraged that he's managed to beat Alcaraz at Indian Wells and had close matches with Sinner.

Medvedev's goal now is to bring his level of tennis to all his other matches, so he can keep setting up meetings with Sinner and Alcaraz. He will shift his focus to preparing for Roland Garros, where he enters as the seventh seed.

What's next for Daniil Medvedev?

Medvedev fell in the opening round of Roland Garros last year, but reached his best result at the French Open in 2021 when he made it to the quarterfinals. He will look to improve on that result this year.

The 30-year-old Medvedev has had a strong season so far, with two titles and a final appearance at Indian Wells. He became the first player this year to hand Alcaraz a defeat, beating him at Indian Wells earlier in the season.
