C.J. Stroud faces backlash over resurfaced comments on women

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is under fire after resurfaced 2023 podcast comments about women in Los Angeles and Houston sparked controversy. The remarks, made on the Boardroom podcast, have drawn sharp criticism from NFL fans and analysts alike.

What did C.J. Stroud say?

On the 2023 podcast, Stroud compared women from his home state of California to those in Houston, where he plays for the Texans. 'You know what's crazy, bro? It's not even close,' he said. 'LA, bro. I love Houston, but it's not even close.' He added, 'Long story short, bro, being a California kid, you have pride about that. You respect the hustle and the grind.'

Stroud elaborated, saying, 'One thing about LA girls, they're real bougie. Houston girls are fake bougie. They don't know how to be bougie.' The comments have resurfaced as Stroud prepares for the 2026 NFL season.

Why is this controversial?

Dallas Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr. reacted to the clip on Monday, tweeting, 'CJ trying to get run out of Houston.' The remarks have reignited debate about Stroud's public persona, especially as he enters a critical contract negotiation period with the Texans.

The controversy comes at a challenging time for Stroud. He threw seven interceptions in last season's playoffs, including four in a divisional-round loss. ESPN also left him off its top 20 quarterback rankings for 2026.

What’s next for C.J. Stroud?

Stroud has yet to publicly address the resurfaced comments. The Texans have not issued a statement either. However, the controversy adds pressure as Stroud and the team continue contract negotiations.

Stroud was the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and has led the Texans to the playoffs in all three of his NFL seasons. His future with the team remains uncertain amid ongoing contract talks and now this latest controversy.
