Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton test F1's new Madrid circuit

Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton took to the track for the first full laps of Formula 1's new Madrid circuit during a filming day. The Spanish Grand Prix moves to the new venue this year, replacing the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Ferrari completed 200km of running with both drivers on special Pirelli demonstration tires.

What happened at the filming day?

Ferrari organized the session at the Madring circuit, which is still under construction but fully laid. Leclerc and Hamilton drove on demonstration tires, limiting any performance insights. The onboard footage reveals the track's narrow sections, steep banking, and undulating surface, which create blind spots into braking zones.

Why it matters for Charles Leclerc

The new Madrid circuit presents a fresh challenge for Leclerc and his rivals. The steeply banked Turn 12 appears demanding on tires, while the track's tight layout suggests limited overtaking opportunities. Leclerc's early experience with the circuit could provide a slight edge when the Spanish Grand Prix takes place in September.

What comes next for the Madrid circuit?

Formula 3 will assist in further track development with an in-season test before the Monza race. This will allow the venue to complete vital systems checks ahead of its grand prix debut. The circuit's high levels of undulation and narrow pit exit highlight the need for thorough preparation before the main event.
