Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, but the match’s defining moment came in the 96th minute. Nico Williams thought he’d scored to break the deadlock, sending Alcaraz into raptures in the stands. The goal was ruled out for offside, and Alcaraz’s face instantly fell-then sparked global laughter. A clip of his crestfallen reaction racked up 3.5 million views on X after Spencer Althouse shared it.

Why did Alcaraz’s reaction go viral?

The 23-year-old’s raw emotion resonated beyond football. Fans flooded social media to praise his hair instead. “His hair is so pretty, he looks like a prince,” one X user wrote. Others begged him to keep the long locks he’s sported since stepping away from tennis. “Beautiful hair, get all the scissors away from him, please,” another pleaded.

What’s next for Carlos Alcaraz?

The seven-time Grand Slam winner has been sidelined since April after injuring his right wrist in Barcelona. He skipped Roland Garros and Wimbledon, but his name appeared in the Cincinnati Open entry list on 10 July. His return remains fitness-dependent.
