Brock Lesnar's UFC Fight With Fedor Emelianenko Never Happened

Dana White recently disclosed that a highly anticipated UFC fight between Brock Lesnar and Fedor Emelianenko never materialized due to contract negotiations falling through. The UFC president revealed that the promotion offered Emelianenko a substantial amount of money, but the deal ultimately collapsed. White admitted he and former UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta were relieved when Emelianenko turned down the offer.

What Happened With the Lesnar vs. Emelianenko Fight?

White explained on The Pivot podcast that the UFC wanted to book Lesnar against Emelianenko, one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time. Despite offering a massive contract, the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement. Emelianenko, known as The Last Emperor, remained outside the UFC throughout his career, competing in Pride, Strikeforce, and later Bellator before retiring in 2023 after a knockout loss to Ryan Bader.

Why Did the UFC Want This Fight?

The proposed matchup between Lesnar and Emelianenko would have been a blockbuster event. At the time, Lesnar was a dominant force in the UFC heavyweight division, while Emelianenko was considered the best fighter not in the promotion. White believed the fight would have been a major draw, but financial terms and other negotiations prevented it from happening.

What Comes Next for Brock Lesnar?

While the Lesnar vs. Emelianenko fight never happened, Lesnar’s legacy in the UFC remains intact. The former WWE star and UFC heavyweight champion has had a storied career, with notable wins over Randy Couture and Alistair Overeem. Though retired from MMA, Lesnar’s name continues to be mentioned in discussions about the greatest heavyweights in UFC history.
