Antony explains why he chose Betis over Bayern Munich

Antony has no regrets about rejecting Bayern Munich to join Real Betis permanently last September. The Brazilian winger, who spent half a season on loan with Betis in 2024-25, signed a long-term deal after helping the club reach their first-ever European final in the Conference League.

Why did Antony turn down Bayern Munich?

Antony admitted Bayern's interest was an honor but prioritized personal happiness. "I was going through a difficult time and needed a place where I could be happy again," he told Bild. The 26-year-old also praised Betis as the right club for him, both as a player and a person.

How has Antony performed at Betis?

Since joining in January 2025, Antony has made 72 appearances, scoring 23 goals and providing 15 assists. Last season, he led Betis in shots (115) and efforts on target (38), helping them finish fifth in LaLiga and qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2005-06.

Antony is excited about Betis’ return to the Champions League. "This is something very special for the club and our fans," he said.
