Andre Onana Accepts Loan Offer

2026-06-27 · Andre Onana · Transfer

Andre Onana has taken a step closer to sealing an exit from Manchester United after accepting an offer to remain with Trabzonspor on loan for another season.

What happened?

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been in talks with the Turkish side, who won the Turkish Cup last season.

Onana joined Manchester United in 2023 for £47.2 million but has struggled to impress, making a series of high-profile mistakes.

Why it matters for Andre Onana

Despite his struggles, Onana has found form in Turkey, enjoying a strong second half of the season with Trabzonspor.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper has taken on a leadership role in the squad and is happy to remain at the Papara Park.

What comes next?

Trabzonspor's president, Ertuğrul Doğan, is keen for Onana to remain with the club, but Manchester United's stance is to seal a permanent exit.

However, Onana's wages, which will increase once the Champions League bonus kicks in, make a transfer difficult.

Onana's acceptance of the loan offer does not necessarily mean that Manchester United has agreed to the proposal.

The Red Devils are exploring options for a new No.2 goalkeeper, including a Scottish World Cup star, in the likely event that Onana and Altay Bayindir both depart.

Manchester United's pursuit of Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens last summer pushed Onana down the pecking order, and he was subsequently loaned to Trabzonspor.

Lammens' position as No.1 is assured, while Tom Heaton is a capable third-choice goalkeeper.

Onana's future at Manchester United remains uncertain, but for now, he will remain with Trabzonspor for another season.

The Turkish side will be hoping that Onana can continue to impress and help them build on their Turkish Cup success.

Onana's experience and leadership will be valuable assets for Trabzonspor as they look to challenge for more silverware.

The loan deal is set to be finalized in the coming weeks, with Onana expected to remain with Trabzonspor until the end of the 2024-25 season.
