Alejandro Garnacho set for Aston Villa loan as Chelsea demand £5m fee

Alejandro Garnacho is on the brink of a loan switch to Aston Villa after Chelsea set a £5million fee for the winger’s temporary move.

The two clubs are in advanced talks over a 2026-27 loan deal that includes a future option to buy. Unai Emery’s side are willing to take the Argentine despite his struggles at Stamford Bridge last season.

Garnacho, 22, netted once and made four assists in 24 Premier League outings for Chelsea in 2025-26. His form dipped sharply after a £40m move from Manchester United last summer.

What’s driving the move?

Villa see Garnacho as a project to revive his career after his Chelsea stint underperformed. Emery has form in this area, having turned Marcus Rashford’s loan into a success in 2025.

The Blues want the £5m loan fee upfront and will include a buy clause in the deal. Chelsea also offered Villa Liam Delap earlier this summer, but the offer was rejected.

How bad was Garnacho’s Chelsea spell?

His 2025-26 season was a sharp drop from his United days. He started just 12 of Chelsea’s 38 league games and was often left out of the starting XI.

The winger’s only goal came in a 2-1 loss to Liverpool on 3 May 2026. His four assists were spread across the campaign, with none in his last 12 appearances.

Who else could Villa sign this summer?

Former Villa scout Bryan King tipped Jack Grealish for a surprise return. The winger, who came through Villa’s academy, starred on loan at Everton last season before an injury ended his campaign.

Grealish’s move to Manchester City in 2016 still haunts Villa fans, but King believes the Toffees could again be his next stop. The 2026-27 destination remains up in the air.

What happens next?

Villa must agree terms with Chelsea and Garnacho before the transfer window closes. The deal hinges on Emery’s willingness to gamble on the winger’s potential.

Garnacho’s future could hinge on whether Villa can unlock the player he was at United - or if another club swoops in with a permanent bid.
