Alejandro Garnacho completes Aston Villa loan move with buy option

Alejandro Garnacho is on the verge of completing a loan move to Aston Villa from Chelsea, with a conditional obligation to buy, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Argentina international will undergo a medical in Birmingham as the deal nears finalization.

What happened with Garnacho’s Chelsea stint?

Garnacho moved to Chelsea from Manchester United last summer after a fallout with then-manager Ruben Amorim. However, his time at Stamford Bridge proved difficult, as he struggled to secure a regular starting spot. The 22-year-old managed just one Premier League goal all season, prompting Chelsea’s new boss, Xabi Alonso, to exclude him from future plans.

Why Aston Villa pursued Garnacho

Aston Villa’s interest in Garnacho was led by manager Unai Emery, who had previously targeted the winger while he was still at Manchester United. Villa’s aggressive pursuit saw them outbid AS Roma, who had also expressed interest in the player. The deal includes an easy-to-achieve obligation-to-buy clause, making a permanent transfer highly likely.

What’s next for Garnacho at Villa Park?

Garnacho has already signed a four-year contract with Aston Villa, with the permanent transfer expected to be completed by 2027. The winger, who made 144 appearances for Manchester United and scored 26 goals, will now look to revive his career under Emery’s guidance. Villa’s second medical assessment is currently underway, with the transfer set to be finalized soon.
