Adam Peaty legally changes name to Ramsay-Peaty ahead of Glasgow 2026

2026-07-25 · Adam Peaty · Player Focus

Adam Peaty has legally changed his surname to Ramsay-Peaty ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the four-time Team GB swimmer announced on Friday.

The Team GB star will compete under his new name when the pool action gets under way on Friday 25 July 2026, just days after the swimming programme kicks off at Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

What happened?

Peaty tied the knot with Holly Ramsay at Bath Abbey in December 2025, but the ceremony was overshadowed by a scuffle outside the venue that drew in Holly and her father, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. The couple later confirmed they are expecting their first child together, a baby girl due in December 2026.

Since the wedding, Peaty has adopted the double-barrelled surname Ramsay-Peaty. The change was finalised in the weeks after the ceremony, and the 31-year-old will now compete under that name in all future competitions.

Why it matters for Adam Peaty

For Peaty, the name change marks a fresh chapter ahead of Glasgow 2026. The Olympic champion has already claimed three Commonwealth Games golds in the 100m breaststroke (2014, 2018) and added a further two silvers and a gold across the 50m breaststroke and 4x100m medley relay.

He has urged fans to focus on his racing rather than his personal life. “That’s the beauty of sport,” Peaty told The Independent. “If you can find that state of mind, it’s an incredible place to be. That’s the Adam people should see-the racer.”

What comes next?

Peaty’s first race as Adam Ramsay-Peaty will be the 100m breaststroke heats on Friday morning. If he qualifies, the semi-finals follow that evening, with the final set for Saturday’s evening session.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games run from 23 July to 1 August in Glasgow, with swimming contested at Tollcross International Swimming Centre from 25 July to 1 August.
